Content Marketing Is The New SEO
Have you read or been told that SEO is dead? I have seen and heard that many times, and the truth is that certain aspects of what has been known as SEO in the past are Dead.
SEO is not dead, it is evolving.
And Content Marketing is the new SEO.
Let’s break down the acronym SEO, Search Engine Optimization. We all know what search engines are… Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask, etc. We all know what optimizing something means… taking action to ensure that something performs at its highest level. So SEO is just… taking action to make sure that your website or web presence performs at “its” highest level on Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask, etc.
Notice I said, its and not the, highest level. That is because there is no single action that can be done by any service or company that will get any website to rank first on the search engines. Not anymore at least. And even if someone does make that happen, chances are that the search engines will figure out what manipulation was done and not only correct it, but punish the behavior.
The New SEO?
The new SEO is less about finding loopholes in the search engines Algorithm and exploiting them, and more about getting authentic validation that your website is a good source of information.
How do you get that validation? Nobody knows Exactly, but the general idea is:
- Creating a beautiful website
- With a good UX (user experience)
- That loads quickly
- That has been designed to be easy for the search engine robots to find, understand, and fully index
- That has a blog
- That has unique and informative content that is updated on a consistent basis
- That has content that is good enough that other people want to share it, link to it, and talk about it
- That makes it easy for people to find and share their content
Content marketing is the new SEO.. so what is content marketing?
Content marketing is any marketing format that involves the creation and sharing of media and publishing content in order to acquire customers. This information can be presented in a variety of formats, including news, video, white papers, e-books, infographics, case studies, how-to guides, question and answer articles, photos, etc.
Content marketing is focused not on selling, but on simply communicating with customers and prospects. The idea is to inspire business and loyalty from buyers by delivering “consistent, ongoing valuable information”. ~ Wikipedia
Creating content that inspire people to want to share it, tweet it, like it, book mark it, comment on it, quote it, link to it, +1 it, pin it, subscribe to it, give it a thumbs up, write a review on it, ad infinitum.
You just finished reading a definition of Content Marketing that was cited from Wikipedia. Because I shared that on my blog post with a link to their site, that is a signal to Google that their website must be a high quality website and therefore should rank high. Wikipedia is actually one of, if not the best, example of “Content Marketing is the new SEO”. Try doing a google search for just about any word and see if Wikipedia does not show up number 1,2, or 3.
Is SEO dead? No. Is SEO changing? Yes. Can we keep up with it? Yes. Is it as easy as it used to be? No. It takes some effort.
But if it were not worth it we would not be talking about it! The amount of business that can be created from ranking highly on the search engines for your businesses keywords are immense.
If you want to be part of the NEW SEO you need to have a CONTENT MARKETING plan in place.
